NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Sustainable Tourism

This course aims to increase candidates’ awareness of sustainable concepts and practices in the tourism industry and improve skills and knowledge of the key elements of sustainable and eco-tourism in a range of tourist destinations.

Aims
The qualification aims to:

  • recognise the importance of sustainable tourism in the travel and tourism industry
  • respect and value both human diversity (cultural, social and economic) and bio-diversity
  • understand that global environmental resources are finite and that this has implications for lifestyles as well as commerce and industry
  • understand that our actions may have unforeseen consequences and therefore we should adopt a cautious approach to the welfare of our planet

Target Group
The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Sustainable Tourism will be attractive to learners who:

  • are seeking to enhance their employment prospects within the travel and tourism industry
  • wish to understand the nature of sustainable tourism
  • wish to gain recognition for previous experience
  • are new to the industry
  • are in employment and looking for a career change

Entry Requirements:
Although there are no specific recommended prior learning requirements, learners wishing to undertake this qualification should hold an appropriate Level 1 qualification in English. The minimum age of entry for this qualification is 16.

Guided learning hours (GLH):
60 (30 weeks)

NQF Level: 2

Assessment requirements:
Independently assessed and externally moderated portfolio

The qualification consists of six mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Explain sustainable tourism and the development of worldwide tourism
  • Unit 02 Investigate the impact of tourism on the local environment
  • Unit 03 Describe how to manage the effects of tourism
  • Unit 04 Explain significant aspects of sustainable tourism
  • Unit 05 Planning for sustainable tourism
  • Unit 06 Explain sustainable tourism within the United Kingdom
