LEVEL 4 & 5 / HE
- University of Teesside Foundation Degree in Early Years
- Edexcel Advanced Practitioner in work with Children & Families (validated by University of Teesside)
- University of Teesside CPD: module Managing Medication systems
- University of Teesside CPD: modules Management of Self, Management of Others
- CG NVQ 4 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People)
Stockton Riverside College is a core partner in a collaborative Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Early Years and Play Work in partnership with Bishop Auckland College and Tyne Met College.
Funding
There is a wide range of funding available for students and employers to access for Childcare courses.
NVQ2 Train to Gain
To qualify for funding students must be over 19 years of age and not hold a level 2 qualification in any subject area. (5 GCSEs grade A-C would also be counted as a level 2 qualification)
Students who qualify would be entitled to free training.
If the Company employs less than 50 people then they may also be eligible to receive wage compensation.

NVQ 3 Train to Gain
If you are working at a Level 3 standard and do not have any previous level 2 qualifications, are over 19 years of age and employed, you may be entitled to free training.
Level 3 Entitlement
If you are aged 19 to 25 and already hold a Level 2 qualification and you would like to achieve your first level 3 qualification, you may be entitled to funding.
Transformation Fund for Childcare and Early Years Staff in the Tees Valley
This fund will help with training costs of Level 3 and 4 qualifications and Early Years Foundation stage training. You can enrol on to level 3 -5 programmes or training to improve skills in working with disabled children and those with special educational needs.
If you are in the private, voluntary or independent sector offering full day care, a registered childminder or offer seasonal day care for under-fives, you can apply to your local authority to help towards your training costs.
Courses eligible for this funding include:
- Early Years Foundation Degree
- BTEC Higher National Certificate in Advanced Practice in Work with Children and Families.
- Certificate in Professional Development in Work with Children and Young People
- Certificate in Promoting Children’s Social and Emotional Development
- Diploma in Home-based Childcare
- UCPD Supporting Learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Learning Disabilities
Other courses include training to improve skills in working with disabled children and those with Special Educational Needs.
